Night Walk: Moving Into the North
January 2 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pmFree
Night walking is the perfect meditation as it calms the nervous system and balances the brain’s hemispheres. The benefits of night walking can be felt on every level: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. At night there is a lot less stimulation and chaos. The senses are more in tune with nature and natural sounds. Night walking is similar to Restorative Yoga.
In the Four Shields, the North is the place of giving back or sharing your wisdom with others. There is great beauty in the North. It is the place of healing. As we are in a season of slowing down and hibernation, enjoying a night walk on the land can be restorative.
We’ll meet up the trailhead past the Ruby Falls parking lot — park at the far lower end of the parking lot (don’t park in the gravel trailhead area). We will hike to Craven’s House and back; the way back will be in the twilight so you will need a headlamp/flashlight. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash. Elevation gain 500 ft. We’ll enjoy the sunset and the moon will be almost full! Bring a snack to enjoy at Craven’s House and a mug — we’ll have some lovely home brewed pine needle tea to enjoy during our sharing circle. Hike Time: 430pm EDT (Eastern) MEETUP TIME; we should be back at the parking lot by 630pEST; sunset is 545pEST.
Location: Ruby Falls lower parking lot close to the trailhead (on the far end of the parking lot– you’ll have to drive past the main building, past bus parking until you have to turn right to the lower lot — park there). Experience this 3 mile loop with view of the city from Craven’s House.
Bring a headlamp or flashlight. **This is flat terrain, slightly rocky in some places but no steep inclines; we will take our time.**
